Thursdays 7:00 - 8:30pm, March 13 - April 10 (no class Mar 27) - 4 weeks
In this class you will learn how to identify your unique comedic language. You will develop your emotional expression and imagination to create larger than life storytelling. The class will explore the art of clowning through fun and engaging games and exercises focusing on emotional reaction, body movement and comic gesture. When you enter the stage, your audience will irresistibly be drawn to your every move. On the last day you will apply your gained knowledge by creating and presenting a short clown routine. Your clown will enter the stage with presence and charisma engaging an audience's attention.
Clown work improves our longform improv by increasing comfort with vulnerability and authenticity. It encourages performers to embrace their unique quirks, take bold risks, and respond honestly.
Todd is a theatre educator, award-winning stage director and professional theatre clown with over 25 years of experience. He has had the opportunity to teach theatre in various schools in California and Arizona.
He launched
Red Nose University in 2022 where he teaches his approach to Theatrical Clown. Todd is the founder of
Vintage Clown Matter where he has performed and toured in his original clown shows, street clowning and parades in the San Diego and LA areas since 2010. He has trained with, among others, one of San Diego’s great mimes, Mark Winzel, two professional clowns through SDSU and with seasoned clown teacher Mikhail Usov (a professional clown from Russia and clown for Cirque Du Soleil). His classes are focused on encouraging students to use “self” as the starting point to creating an original character and discovering their unique comic language.
Open to all, no prior experience needed.
